DeWolf Park sits right on the Bedford Basin — boardwalk, benches, a view of the water that makes screaming into the wind feel less like a stunt and more like a release valve. We meet at the waterfront end, near the boardwalk, rain or shine, summer or December.

Regulars range from long-time Bedford residents to people who moved here six months ago and wanted a way to meet people that wasn't small talk at a coffee shop. Nobody's in charge beyond someone starting the countdown. It's become the kind of thing where you start recognizing faces — the guy with the knee brace, the woman who always brings her dog, the person who bikes in from the other side of the basin.

We've also used the gatherings to support the neighbourhood directly — bringing donations for the Bedford Lions Community Food Pantry, right across from the park, so the evening gives back to Bedford as much as it gives to the people in it.
